I have a amd x2 4200+ and i want to overclock. I'm reading a guide but not quite sure if I understand properly and I dont want to do anything before being 100% certain.

I'm reading this http://www.legitreviews.com/article/373/3/

Where it shows this screen

Is this all I need to do? thanks

well my friend said it would work so i did it and now when i boot the screen is just black..great

Don't worry, it's very unlikely that you have broke anything. An easy way to fix things if you go wrong in the BIOS: just clear the CMOS and all will be restored :)

At a guess you might have needed to drop the RAM multi before increasing the FSB by such a huge amount in one go. Just take your time and it will be worth it.

You wont need to do that. Normally it just requires moving a jumper setting to clear it then moving it back to its original position. The manual will show u where its located.

Start small and work up...

If I remember correctly the stock speed of your CPU is 2.2GHz

Start by increasing the HTT speed to 210MHz to try for 2.3GHz

If this seems fine then try going 220MHz etc

Once you get to about 230MHz to 240MHz you will prob need to decrease your HT Multiplier to 4.

Which Ram are you using? You will need to make sure that your overclocks not being limited by your ram, one good thing to do is to see how far your ram can go before you clock your CPU, by decreasing the multi you can find out how high you can go on your ram before clocking the CPU. You could have course decrease the ram speed and then clock it back up with the CPU overclock but its all about getting the balance between the two really...

Once your sure that the overclock is not being limited by the HT or Ram then its time to increase the volts a little, provided that your temps are all ok of course :)

Yeh so give that a go and see how you get on.... :)

What are your temps like? if all good them keep going...

really need to see the memory tab to see what its running at though :) the tab you have posted shows the rated speeds.

The tab which you have shows your using AM2 / DDR2 though which is good, thought u were 939 for some reason from the first post!

GPUZ says 51C which i think is ok?? what can i use to measure the CPU temps?

heres the memory section sorry

BTW i think i killed my onboard soundcard doing that overclocking the first time :( no sound at all

Try coretemp for CPU temp...

Memory looks like its running stock... is it overclocked at mo?

I can't see why your sound card would be affected... is it onboard or PCI / PCI-E etc?

memory is completely stock and soundcard is onboard..i cant get sound at all i've checked everything i'm unmuted all my audio settings are correct :S

EDIT: both cores at 40c

Sounds like you need to get your cooling sorted out...

Do you have a 80 or 120mm fan at the back of the case? which case are you using? do you have a fan at the front of the case?

The onboard soundcard was on auto on the bios so i put it to enable and it still doesnt work :(

I'll get a pic of inside the case as i'm not sure myself

EDIT here it is

I'm guessing 2 fans isnt enough
