I just cut a square from my wife's yoga mat and it works fine.

I think I have an Icemat, is years old and the perfect surface. Its a black glass surface, remember spending around £30 on it, but best money I have ever spent, as its lasted several years now.

Stocking some glass surface mats is the way to go!
