After much help, and much more reading i have finally ordered my new build components, hopefully get here tomoz sometime.
Havent had a new pc for about 5-6 years now, been running a celeron, 1.8Ghz and pentium-4, 2.6Ghz for years, both with onboard everything, thought they were the b**lox at the time, but have learnt otherwise since joining these forums, but they have served me well (only thrown them down the stairs about 4 times each in 6 years!!! )

I contemplated for 40 mins about placing the order, especially as i aint got no money!!
BUT IT IS DONE :D
Here i come into the realms of being a pc "DADDY"!!!

So below is what i've ordered, plus i have a nice case, a sata to ide converter for my ata 133 hdd's and 42" plasma waiting too ;)

Havent really built a "proper" pc like this before, so any pointers much appreciated, prob gonna end up askin what to do from scratch to be honest-but i aint completely computer illiterate though!

I would personally have changed a couple of things, though overall it's looking very good. Good luck and have fun with the build and boot.

IMO you should have spent an extra £60 and gone for the BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3 instead. It would have been worth it in the long run ;)

But otherwise a nice setup, or it will be when your hook it all up :)

That is a very nice spec you got going there, clock that baby and you are laughing....maybe you could have gone for an 8800GTS 320Mb version, but I suppose when ATI release their R600's more cards will become available :)

Nice build, I'd think about sending back that graphics card and either (a) getting a different brand of x1950 pro or (b) getting an 8800 GTS. Don't wish to put a downer on your build but that is what I'd do.

sooooo, so far, biggest comeback is the graphics card, anyone elaborate on this? like i said-i've never been past "on board" graphics, so not really clued up, and to be honest, if its that good a decision-I'll spend the xtra £60!!!

Agreed, and what makes it even worse is you ordered the borked HIS card.

:(

Change it now, your wasting your money on old tech there, GTS totally destroys it, has much better image quality, and is nxt gen Dx10. :)

The x1950's are old tech, totally worthless now, no point buying an ATi card as they are all worthless now as they are old tech as said, only Nvidia has next gen cards out, so if buying new, Nvidia is your only option. :)

oh  :(

so when you say about spending the extra £60 on the BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 320MB GDDR3, is that the one that is currently pre-order??? (out tomoz?)

So i'm panicing now!
just got on the webnote to see if i didnt make the order in time for tomoz delivery to change it,

watch this space!!

no its already out been out a while just out of stock lol

doesnt have to be the bfg one just a 8800

Well done for having the courage to change it there - a very good move, it will make a huge difference to your build. Those BFG cards are superb.

When Loadsamoney was talking about the ATi cards being 'old' he was referring to them being only DX9, and with Vista DX10 is coming out, bringing new graphical effects and performance. The 8800 series are the cards to get if you can afford them.

just got a poxy email saying "despatched"!!, have to fork out on sending back and delivery now, but suppose i can still at least build the rest till then, glad i've changed to a step in the right direction though! :D
cheers guys
