Im umming an urring over the graphics card at the moment, I would appreciate some input, before I have always been an ATI man however reviews speak highly of this card……….any thoughts?

Any feedback much appreciated guys!

Mike

Oh also I have a ThermalTake Tsunami Dream case sitting here at the moment which I could strip out for my new rig if everything would fit in there? Would there be any problem with that?

I also have 2 x 1 gig of Corsair XMS 3200 1024 400 Mhz sticks, would this memory be any use in the machine? Im guessing I cant salvage this - would bottleneck right....right?

Spare Antex Neo480 - perhaps the best PSU i have ever had! would this provide enough power?

your Spec looks good.
I would go fot the gtx its a top card, you couldn't use your old ram in that motherboard as its ddr2/3 board be best selling it and going for the balastics youve chosen.
Your 480 power supply will need replacing aswell with the GTX, the cosair one youve chosen is the best option you could get away with the 520 watt version which would still be plenty powerfull enough.

I have a feeling you could have problems with the tsuami case with the length of the GTX card, someone will be able to clarify this though

go for the
Intel Core 2 Duo E2160 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.80GHz (800FSB) - Retail
and a good heatsink and fan then clock it up to 3ghz save you a lot of money

Don't take that advice.

The 6850 is 1333MHz FSB whereas the 2160 is 800Mhz which is quite a performance gap. The 6850 is at 3GHz at stock and will clock mega high me thinks knowing Intels history with the Conroes.

I would suggest you get a Tuniq Tower with the cpu though - its quieter, cooler and will allow some super overclocking with that CPU.

Spec is pretty much perfect apart from the lack of cpu cooler.

The Tsunami will be fine - however you need to remove the bottom HDD tray for the GTX to fit in. However the Eclipse is a super case and much nicer looking than the Thermaltake IMO. If you can afford it then get it :)

agreed 4ghz should be readly available with the right mobo and ram

Thats great guys thanks!

I changed the heatsink to the tuniq one, googled it and read some of the reviews and seems pretty good. Thanks for that one Jaffa Cake!

Is there any point in waiting for the drop in intel prices? Any ideas how much lower the C2D price will fall? I figured primarily it was aimed at the quad cores!

I was planning on ordering this today so if anyone out there has an opinion it would be appreciated!

Thanks all

Mike - quivering with anticipation

Oh and any thouts on the icemat gaming mousemats? Im not so fussed about "1337" gaming skills, more concerned about carpul tunnel.....

Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 - May be worth seeing on July 21st if the price drop affects this?

But on the other hand... I can hardly see it being more than a £20 or so drop if that, so to be fair, it's prob not worth holding an order back for.

Re - Mouse mats - I use an Everglide, it's massive and cloth based, absolutely brilliant! Never used an ICEmat, heard they are good but need cleaning?

Only other thing I'd say mate, is, do you REALLY need the GTX? I have always had the high end cards, like yourself, mostly ATI, however, I have an 8800GTS now, and tbh, at the resolution I need (1600x1200) it runs fine in games.

If you have higher resolution, of course go for it :)

Also, I am literally suggesting it only to save you a bit of money, if you don't mind spending the initial amount anyway, then go for the GTX :D
