I would like a new amp and speakers, how do I split up my budget for them?

Hi,

Would like to get new speakers and amp for my Hifi. Now I am not sure how you should split the budget to keep the two parts 'balanced'. Oh I also need a new interconnect, my budget is £500-600 in total. Suggestions?

round about 50/50 and you cant go wrong, personally i would go for a bit more on the speakers.

I don't mind getting a 2nd hand amp at that price, but I would be a little iffy on getting 2nd hand speakers. As you do not know what the previous owner did to them. Just seems a little bit of a lottery really, thats all.

Avforums is a generally a good place to pick up stuff that has been treated well. Picked up some Quad 21Ls for £300 (£699 rrp), Quad 11Ls £120 (£379rrp), Nad C370 some years back. All exactly as described.

pmc's for £300, bargain! Go secondhand, you could get a magic pair of speakers like those PMC's.
