I would like to buy a Ixus digital camera - which one?

I've looked at a few websites and from that and personal recommendations I'd like to buy an Ixus digital camera.

I don't know which one to get. The 800 looks good but might do a bit more than I need it to. So I thought maybe the 65? Maybe the 750 cos it does 7.1MP instead of 6.

Basically I want a fairly good camera that will last 4 years without being 'old-fashioned', must be small (i.e. pocket sized).

Don't base your opinion on how many megapixels it has. 3million is sufficient for normal prints, if you want to print larger pictures than you need more megapixels but don't go over the top as well.

I have the 50, like it a lot
the 60 and 65 are great little cameras but one has a larger screen
personally I'd stick with the one that has the smaller screen and the proper view finder for those bright holiday moments
the 800IS is expensive but lovely in that it has 8mp IS and 4x optical zoom if I recall, so it's more along the canon powershot A range I think
but for small pointy and clicky, the ixus 60 would be nice

Im looking for a Canon camera in general, and to me the best one that they are going to release soon is the IXUS 900Ti. Not sure what your budget is, but that is the best that money can buy. Can imagine that will be hard to beat for several years I expect.

Thing is though, im not sure where the cheapest place is to buy this specific camera??

check out OcUK's camera section :)

im sort of in the same boat, cant decide between the IXUS 850 anr IXUS 900.

think im gonna go for the 850, mainly cos it has optical image stability (strange that the flagship 900 hasnt got this??), plus its cheaper :)

I also found that strange that a top of the line model doesnt feature it either, it is almost as if they have traded in some special features just because it has that titanium shell.

I wanted a really good & decent quality camera that can stand the test of time, was hoping that the 900Ti would do that, but without that image stabiliser it renders it kind of useless for me, plus the fact I cant find proper reviews of these cameras anywhere, only copies of the tech specs from Canons website.

BUMP!

I am in a bit of a bind with these IXUS cameras, and have indeed dwindled down to the latest 2 - the IXUS 850 & IXUS 900

What I want to know is if there is a review of both of these cameras, either individually, or preferably against eachother, as I need to know which is the superior camera, as they are both around the same price.

Amazing price to purchase from here, didnt really know you could get them from here until recently. Cheapest & most reliable so I know where im getting it from :D

Im basically after a camera with decent image quality and also the main style of the camera as well.

Are there any cameras out there that can beat the latest IXUS models?

You could get a Leica M8 :D

What camera would that be then? Im really only after a Compact Camera, none of those SLR cameras.

I just want someone to say that its well worth buying. And to assure me that even though the IXUS 900 does not have Image Stabilisation it doesnt matter.

I have time to decide as the OCuk store has run out of all Canon Cameras :(

That would be a Leica M8, as I said. Its a nice small digital camera, not an SLR.

I must admit that the camera there looks quite, well, ugly really.

The camera I have must have decent image quality with good looks to it as well. The Canon excels in looks, but I need to hear about the image quality of them all.

It surprises me that not many people can recommend me a camera in the £300 price range.

It suprises me that not many people can search this forum. We get so many people asking "What camera for £xxx?" You really can't go wrong with any Canon or Nikon or Fuji. Just buy one! Don't buy for looks either. You buy a camera to take pictures not to show off with. "Oh look at this its gold but can only take 1 picture at 1mp!!"

No way, I dont want to spend more than around £300, seeing as I can get the latest IXUS 900 for that kind of price.

I just wanted to know if there is any camera that can better it

Better is a subjective word. You could get a Canon Powershot S2 or S3 IS for that. Its better in that it has more creative controls. Manual settings so you have more control over the final image. The IXUS is better because its smaller.

To be honest I dont really want much manual controls again, I really prefer just taking photos without much fiddling TBH. Is the IXUS more of a simplified way of taking photos, kind of almost point & click?
