OMG
seriously i wouldnt wish this printer on my worst enemy

the PHOTO EPSON RX425

Rant time:
okay so you dont print for a few days due to a format, ansd when you DO decide to print... hmmm only 2 colours print, so you run the TEST pattern and its virtualy none-existant.
so you run 'head cleaning' and WHAM there goes a third of your ink... where does it go ?? who knows !

when you DO try to print... it decides to unload its AWSOME features on you by displaying how fast it is at printing, so instead of grently FEEDING the paper, it just launches it into the big gaping ink swallowing hole epson call the RX425.
in doing so at earth shattering speeds it throws the paper off to one side, not quick enought to recognise it as a jam it simply KEEPS PRINTING ! spraying your precious ink all over the inside of the printer... great !
so try again same thing happenss. then it tells me im out of ink... hmm wonder where the ink went ?
suddently ive got full ink.
and it just goes on and on and on

feel better now?

NO !
it just does not print. ive even tried to gently nurture the paper feed with my loving hands to try and get it to calm down whicle chewing the paper but theres simply nothign i can do to get it NOT to hurtle the paper down without it going off at an angle and jamming.

new printer time i think... take this heap back to the guys in the purple shirts... im now realising why every PC shop i walked into was trying to sell me this printer cheaper and cheaper.

Epson printers are famous for this, it is because their ink cart and head is seperate, hence their cart is cheaper than others. I've learned the hard way with 2 Epson printers and since fone to HP I never had any ink blockage problems, not even not printing for 6 months.

yea my old crappy HP which ive had since the year of dot never goes wrong, thats my parent printer though... i ahve my onw and have to get my own ink.
any reccomendations for about 90 quid... if the purple shirt wearers will take this one back ?

I wouldnt buy another Ep-sham printer again for the same reasons. You dont use it for a week and then it doesn't print properly. So you run head clean 3 times. Then if you're lucky its ok .....till next time.
Went Canon this time dont regret it at all.

I sold my Epson at a boot fair due to constant clogging of the print heads.

If I didn't use it for a day or 2......clogged.

Use half my ink "cleaning" the heads and then the cycle would start again.

Vowed to never buy another Epson.

Now use a HP 710c I got for £4 from a bootfair and it has NEVER clogged once!

Heaven. :D

Welcome to world of Epson! :D

Seriously, how old is the printer? Can you still take it back? I would certainly do so, because it's faulty. Most retailers have to refund/replace when the customer tells them the goods are faulty. Of course, I'm not implying you say it's faulty. ;)

I liked HP printers - but my 3820 wasn't upto the standards I had been demonstrated by die hard ancient HP users. Paper was a pig to align, the ink is more expensive per ml than Morrisons most expensive (£40) bottle of champagne.

I bought my Canon Pixma iP4200 not so long ago. I've loved it to bits from day one.

You can buy individual colours. So if cyan ran out on my HP, I'd have to replace the entire tank - but with Canon, I just replace the Cyan tank.

I adore the fact I can print onto any CD I want to. For non-printable CDs, all I do is whack on one of my many CD labels on any CD, insert into the Canon - job's a good 'un! For reference, I bought the CD labels when I had my HP.

One other thing I like about my Canon - it can do double-sided (duplex) printing without ANY user intervention. Just choose duplex printing when you print, and off it goes. I really enjoy watching it do duplex printing.:o

My only grudge with the Canon, is the chipped ink-tanks. I have yet to replace one or run out of ink - but I'm going to go open minded about the fact that the ink tanks are around £10 a pop.

£10 a tank might sound expensive. But I've printed off a few photos, several of which include full A4 prints. The ink monitoring software says I've used 1/3 or 1/4. Visual inspection reveals it to be about 1/8. Saying that, it's the first time the ink software has twitched since I've used the printer in the last 2-3 months.

I would get a refund on your cheap tat Epson, and give the Canon a go. I guarantee you won't look back.

I had an Epson once. One day it told me my Black and Colour ink was gone. So, not realising the Epson printer COUNTS the print jobs, rather than looks at the level of ink, I go off and spend about 40 quid on two new cartridges. So I start the process of replacing the cartridges. BUT I was called away so I just quickly exited out of the process, only to find the ink levels were now 100%. Intrigued I tried printing. Lo and behold it printed perfectly, when only the day before it couldn't manage an address label.

So there I was left with 40 quids of cartridges I didn't need. The pretending to change the ink cartridges routine worked another 2 times. Soon as they really did pack in I flogged the printer and got myself a Lexmark X5150. Had this printer for almost 2 years and only just replaced the ink last month. I am well pleased with it.

Mate had the same, no end to the problems with his Epson printer.

In the end he unplugged it, put it outside on the ground, jumped in the air and landed on the piece of crap and bought a HP printer :p

Duplex printing is just double-sided printing - at leas that's all it does with my printer. :p

I got my iP4200 for around £70 including P&P. Obviously I can't say where from. ;)

I've had 4 epson printers and they've all done the same thing, i really should learn to stop buying them. Using a cheap HP laser now, certainly wouldnt buy or recommend Epson to anyone ever again.

Ive got the Epson RX425 and i use the cheapest ink i could find i think it was 70p per cartridge or something like that and i can go weeks without printing and it will be fine.

you are blessed my friend lol !

oh guys ive just realised why i gt it int he first place !
i NEED the scanner on the top. just looked at the iP4200 and within 5 seconds remembered about the scanner.
i simply do not have the space for a seperate scanner.

so spec me an all in one. cheap ink, printer/scanner preferably one which will do CDs

i paid £80 for the RX425 from a high street retailer, so i will probobly have to get one from the same shop.
ill ahve a look on their website and get some options

I had a DX3800 this week, and all the black ink is almost gone, after printing the grand total of 2 pages. Rest was cleaning cycles to clear the heads on a NEW printer.

I got on the phone to epson, had a good moan and they are sending me a set of ink for free.

Mine has not caused me any problems at all, but maybe im just lucky. I like the way you can photocopy without the need of a pc.

I use the Jet-tec cartridges but they dont seem to last that long! Oh well!

At work we've just changed all our printers and scanners to cannon, they seem to be working fine so far...

we had some but not many problems with the HP laserjets, the black and white ones were ok but the colour one was compleatly retarded and the print quality, although amazing, is nothing compared to the colour cannon photocopier we've got now

we also had an epson scanner that never worked, it just didnt like the network.

we also have an A0 HP bubbljet plotter, which has been a total nightmear in the past, but after the last firmware upgrade it's been fine, apart from still not being compatable with the network x_X so there's only one computer you can print from onto it.

i used to have an old epson something or other and an olivetti... both suffered greatly with the "dont just them for a week and never use them again" syndrome... so since then i've NEVER had another printer... they're expencive, big and have never worked for me, and they're retarded to install. saying that though, i've never had a USB printer and hearing everyone say how great cannon are i'm going to see if i can get hold of a cheep USB Cannon laser printer, anyone got any recomendations for that?

what does everyone think of that? btw laser printers ROCK!!!!
