Just finished building a HTPC.

I've noticed that on boot the i3 2120 Stock HSF seems to run at full speed for a few seconds after post.

After this it slows down to normal speed and is almost silent.

Is this normal behavior?

I've only ever used an after-market cooler so not used to the stock cooler. It's only for watching movies so would rather not have to buy an after-market cooler.

look in the bios and set cpu fan to voltage or pwm,it shouldnt do it then but on some boards its normal

It doesn't have either of those as an option. Just Q-Fan control which I've tried each setting (silent, normal, turbo) but the same happens.

And it only happens on a cold boot not when restarting.

i have an asus board it doesnt spin up fast like that but im using aftermarket cooler with some pwm controlled akasa apache fans, stock fan might do it

Yeah, my other Asus board with an aftermarket cooler doesn't do it. Might order a cheap cooler to replace it with.
