Hey guys,

I'm just about to get a laptop for my gf but have one last compromise to make. Her budget was £400, but I've pushed her to £430 after finding I can get an HP G62 i3 330M with 3GB RAM for £427.

My question is, is this a good deal or would I see any benefit of dropping the i3 for a C2D with 4GB RAM?

Thanks in advance

Well it's a bit of a broad question, answer really depends on use, actual models you want to compare etc but I'd go with i3. RAM after all would be a lot less easier to upgrade in the future.

The i3 will be more powerful, more efficient, and more future proof, unless she'll be running any seriously memory intensive programs?

I'd be suprised if she topped much over 2gig in use unless she does something really memory heavy, with internet browsing, office, etc. won't even hit 3gig let alone 4.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I've gone ahead and got the HP G62 i3, and have to say that I am very impressed with it. I got it for just under £430 and think it's more than adequate for what it's needed for - I highly recommend it to anyone looking for something within this price bracket.
