My current rig is based around the following

E8600 (Corsair H50)
Asus P5Q-E
4GB GeIL Black Dragon PC6400 RAM

... however I have an i3 530 at my disposal but no motherboard or RAM for it. Overclocking included is the i3 530 good enough to warrant buying a new motherboard and RAM for it to base my rig on? Or should I keep what I have and sell the i3 530 until I can upgrade to higher along the cpu food chain etc?

Cheers :)

Wouldn't bother. The performance when it comes to gaming is a toss-up really, and the performance increases that the i3 offers (when it has to offer any at all) aren't really worth the money.

Wow never knew about that page on anandtech, cheers - going to save that page for future reference :)

At stock speeds I knew the E8600 was better I just couldn't find any overclocked bench comparisons.
