I'm looking at building a SFF machine incorporating an i3 540 cpu, the programs I'll be running require support for open GL and DirectX 7. Does the cpu's integrated graphics support these?

As far as I know it should. It's designed to support HD I believe at least at 720p resolutions, (probably higher?) and therefore should also support both dx11 and OpenGL. Would be interested to see a more informed answer however.

The GPU supports DirectX 10 and OpenGL 2.1.

I would however suggest getting the 2100 over the 540. The HD 2000 performs better, and has DirectX 10.1 and OpenGL 3.0 support.

See here for some comparisons: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/...core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/11

The 540 has the same inbuilt GPU as the 660, which runs at 733mhz. The 2100's GPU is the HD 2000.

Thanks for the info I'd go for the 2100 cpu but the only ITX boards I've seen are socket 1156

If you search around other sites you can find some 1155 ITX boards. Strange OcUK don't seem to have them anymore, I remember seeing quite a few in stock a month ago .

The igp on i3 530 is pretty reliable for everything inc cad work, BL and HD 1080p movies except gaming, doubt much difference with i3 540.

The new 1155 gpu is about a cheap sub £50 graphics card worth better being able to play most games at lowest settings as you would with a dedicated budget graphics card.
