Hi, would a Core i3-6100 3.70GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 be good enough for gaming on? Wanting to play Battlefield 4 and 1 when it's out as well as the new COD (for MW4). It would be used with a GeForce GTX 970 Armor OC 4096MB GDDR5.

Yes for the games you mention.

Would be more of a problem for CPU heavy games.

I play battlefront and bf4 online with a 1060 and an i3 4130 and get 90-100 fps. This fps would increase if I dropped my i7 into that system but because it's hooked up to a tv 90-100 is overkill!!

I have the i3 6320 which is almost the same, also have the msi armor x2 970 and it goes together GREAT! can play battlefield 4 maxed out at way over 60fps,team fortress 2 over 100fps maxed, dirt rally maxed at over 84fps average.

its a great cpu for gaming with a 970 :)

I wouldn't go with less than a 4 core cpu for a gaming rig, From what I've read in the past some games run like a pig on an i3. Yes some games run fine but some don't so if you want a good all-round gaming computer get a 4 core cpu.

Well I own an i3 4130 (although just replaced with a 4370)

And I speak from experience rather than what I've read and it runs the games I play (battlefront/bf4/project cars/dirt rally) without a hiccup. I've no doubt it's the bottleneck in my system but who cares if I get 100fps rather than 120 when I'm limited to a 60hz screen.

I also have an i7 4790k as a comparison.

What games don't run well on the new i3 cpus? I'm just interested as every game ive tried so far has run great, the only game that has run a tad under par is batman arkham knight with it maxed and all game works on but even then it hits a solid 59fps in the benchmark.

Maybe big rts type games could struggle a bit but most common mainstream games it runs amazingly well for what it is,it out performs a fx 8350 in some games and is just about equal in the rest

i3 Should be at least 60fps in most, apart from really cpu intensive ones.

it is,i get 60fps+ in almost all games maxed with my 970,just been playing battlefield 4 on railway map and was averaging around 90fps,its a wicked cpu for the money :)
