I3 - I7

Evening guys, i have myself an acer 5720 with a core I3. but a friend has just dismantled his HP elitebook 2540p with a I7.. is it possible to put the i7 into the acer?

Do you know the exact models of yours and your friends CPUs.

Also double check the Acer website for any CPU support lists.

i cant say for sure but i think the i7 is the i7-640lm and the i3 is 330m

Googling around it says the Acer uses a Core 2? Can you get the exact model number?

Both CPUs are the same socket, however the BIOS on your Acer might not support it.

Remove the link, they count as a competitor and it's against forum rules.

Looking on this page it supports the i3-330M, i3-350M, i5-430M and i5-520M.

I can't seem to find anything where it says it can support the i7.

Not true and you also have to take into account whether the bios supports the i7 and also if the cooling solution is able to deal with it.

Under the BIOS tab:

1. Supports CPU i7-640M.

This is from BIOS version 1.16 and above. So if you update it to the latest one, you might be able to get the i7-640LM to work with the Acer.
