i3 or i5 for gamming?

i5 is better if you can afford it.

You will probably notice difference when playing high settings on demanding games like bf3.

i5 all the way bro, i7 you don't really need for gaming, i3 only if your budget is crunched or checkout the MM for a second hand one. The last gaming rig I built for someone was a second hand i7 920 1366 socket if you dont mind a dead end and you can get it cheap enough, still a star performer if you strap a decent sink on it and OC

He is comparing the i3 5xx series and the i5 6xx (from the look of it) those i3's clocked like mad effectively making the dual core i5 pointless to the enthusiast market, you can't do that with a modern i3.

I though so, since all SB/IB i5's are quad cores anyway (well I think there might be one low power SB i5 that is a dual core but that is irrelevant to consumers).
My vote goes for a 3570k, or a 2500k if it is significantly cheaper.

Ahh my mistake!
I am a bit out the loop on the latest CPU. My first gen i5 is almost 3 years old and is showing no signs of being past it yet so I haven't checked the newer stuff!
