Hey everyone,

My vintage 2012 rig is still good but Im wanting to do more now Im working with 4K files and its time for an upgrade.

The question is do I pull the trigger just now or do I wait as Ive read a few things about new chips appearing in the next few months.

I will be upgrading to 2x 27" 4K monitors and using Photoshop for still image editing plus probably moving to Davinci Resolve for my video editing from an old copy of Sony Vegas.

Video files will come from the Panasonic GH5 at 4K and the DVX200 plus 1080p footage from a D800.

Thanks everyone!

Rik

What's your budget, and how intensive is your editing?

Basically my question is do you want a Ryzen 3900X 12 core now, wait a month for the 16 core 3950X or wait for a month and go all-out on Threadripper 3 which is starting at 24 cores? Because there is literally no Intel option worth buying right now. Adobe Photoshop still loves single core performance, but the sheer grunt of those 3 AMD chips is more than enough.

Hey there

I reckon £1k for the system including case/cpu/mobo/32gb/500gb ssd type storage/video.

Single core perf would be good as I reckon the GPU will be the thing that does the 4K heavy lifting.

Thanks

Black Fridays in just a few weeks? So probably a good idea to wait and see what deals pop up? basically what i'm doing at the moment.

Good plan! It will be getting bought from OCUK as Ive used them now for about 15 years for builds.
