I5 13600K/KF

It was popular, but the X3Ds have taken the 13600K's thunder (at least, for gaming) and even though the lower-end AMD CPU: 7600/X (& to a lesser extent: 7700/X) performs worse for productivity, the gaming performance is competitive, with the longer-term upgrade potential of AM5.

With the 13700F and B760 out now, I'd rather have that.

Why does AM5 have more upgrade potential than 1700?

From what I have seen in benchmarks the 13700F doesn't perform much better than the 13600, at least in games.

AMD have said they'll support AM5 long enough that I'd expect at least 1, probably 2 more generations. AM4 had Zen, Zen+ (2000), Zen 2 (3000), Zen 3 (5000) and the 5800X3D. Intel have one new CPU for 1700, but it's apparently just a refresh of 13th gen (higher clocks and power limits).

Yeah, I'd expect that, but at this point, I'd prefer to have 8 P-cores if I was keeping the system for e.g. 5+ years.

So which AM5 processor is the current favourite (other than 7800X3D)?

They don't get much attention anymore, because it is X3D, X3D, X3D, but if I had the choice for gaming: 7700 non-X. £300, 8 fast cores, a stock cooler which is good enough for gaming (wraith prism) and it often slightly beats the 7900X/7950X in gaming benchmarks (at least, it does for now).

I did think long and hard over replacing my KF for an X3D but not sure it's worth it?

Depends on the use and which KF. It probably is worth the effort, as I would take pretty much any X3D chip over any KF, but if it’s worth the money only you can decide.
