i5 2400 vs 2500k

How much of a noticable difference in performance am I looking at if I swapped my 2400 for a 2500k and overclocked it?

I'm debating swapping out because it does seem to be the weak point of my rig currently.

When you say weak point what do you mean exactly? Getting any cpu be it SB or IB might just be a sidestep really. The biggest difference between k and none k is overclocking. So a possibility of up to 4.XXGhz on a k processor depending on your cooling etc. Other than that... Probably a bigger side step than an upgrade. From what I understand at least. Your 2400 should handle most everything alright...

It would probably depend on the rest of your system, as I doubt the 2400 would really bottleneck any single card system? You may gain a small rise in minimum frame rates on some select titles with tthe 2500k and overclocking it.

Why did you not go for the K version initially? Worth doing if you can get a decent price for your 2400 and get a decent cooler and overclock the K chip.

Depends what you use your PC for ultimately I guess.

All sorts to be honest, originally build it as a CAD/ design jobby, also use it for recording (nothing major, just bass and vocals) then downloaded a couple of games and wanted to double it up.
Also used as my HTPC and storage server.

I agree. Unless you used a lot more HT apps even then the 2500k wouldn't be worth it. You would want something more suited to a cpu w/ HT compared to the 2500k

i5 2400 if you dont want to OC and i5 2500k if you want to have some fun with ocing.
But depends on your mobo and also for i5 2500k to oc you need to buy after market cooling.
