Ive tweaked my oc on my I5 today, just wanteed some feedback please about temps etc.

Im relatively new to all this OC business and hoped i could get some adice on if this seems ok
I5 2500k
4.2ghz
MB Gigabyte Z68AP-D3
CPU ratio - 42
DRAM Timings 11-11-11-28-2
Core V - 1.34
Dram v - 1.6v

Idle temp is 23C
Stress tested on Prime 95 running a blend for 3 hours max temp was 69C, averaged at 66C, using air cooling only, is this ok for my setup?
I have a thermaltake soprano case which isnt great for air flow (although i have added an additional 120mm Inlet fan under my DVD drive)

Any criticism or advice would be highly appreciated, Cheers

Just a thought, is it common practice to try and run lower cpu v's to reduce temp and increase hardware life?

As i said im a newb, sorry

I oc'd mine today to 4.6 with a voltage of 1.38. Stress tested it for 6 hours maxed out at 71 degrees with no blue screens or errors

Not yet, ill lower v on it, if i can lower v on cpu n not get BSOD that would help reduce temps right? as long as is stable, so aim is to run with lowest v in cpu without compromising stability, man i hate being a newb

yes thats right

I have a Prolimatech Lynx CPU Cooler with push pull fans, and an exhaust directly behind on back of case( psu above the exhaust fan on back.

Also standard Soprano inlet at front base of case and an additional one above (in DD drive cage-removed paneling etc and fitted home made filter) The soprano also has an inlet on the side which feeds air directly onto the side of the cpu cooler, ive ducted/added air flow panels to smooth-en out any stagnant air pocket areas too.

I only run 1 gphx card atm so also have an exhaust at the back base too until i get 2 new cards.

Ill tweak the cpu V and lowr ram V once i finished streaming this film and then run a test tomorrow, thanks for the input, ill let you know how it goes (aslong as nothing blows up ) =)

Morning all, Ive dropped Voltage on RAM to 1.56V,no problem from doing that as far as i can see.

Now the CPU i had a moment of inspiration last night, i dropped the core Voltage to 1.31 but also increased the core to 4.3, very happy to say that it ran prime95 belnd for 8 hours, with a core temp of 65max.

I have one more question if i may, i know that in the chip lottery, not all are the same, although may be the same name of chip, some will perform better.

So what im looking for is a way to compare my chip to other peoples 2500k, so i can see where mine falls in the great scheme of things, any ideas?

thats good news m8 dont know with out searching through threads how youd compare as you say its a lottery most chips will do 4.5-4.6 though not all looks like you could have a decent chip

From what I vaguely remember about 2500K's, they overclock further than 3570K's. 3570K's can average 4.5Ghz, so I'd say that you can definitely go further :p

Have you tried 4.5Ghz?
