I need to get an i5 sandy bridge build between now and jan 1st. Looking for advice on the best time to buy components, price wise. I will be using my asus vg278h monitor, gtx 580, Samsung bd-drive, WD black 6gb/s, keyboard and mouse. So basically need everything from a new case to what goes inside it.

Any ideas if prices are lowest
1) pre-25th
2) boxing day
OR
3) after Xmas?

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £179.99

MSI Z68A-G45-G3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £114.98

XFX Pro 850W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £79.98

Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus Case - Black £69.98

Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit 41.99

Total: £486.92

Also need a good CPU cooler which isn't too pricey. Thinking of going with Hyper 212 Evo. Any better recommendations?

I would say they would probably stay the same, perhaps slight movement but no one will really know.

Unless Ocuk do there voucher code as they did last year.

are you planning on sli'ing the the 580 in the future? if not then no need for the 850w psu.

no sli:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £161.99
1 x Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £79.98
1 x Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus Case - Black £69.98
1 x Cooler Master Silent Pro Modular 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £59.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX) £41.99

use the voucher code CMDOUBLE to get £20 off

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18347004

plus you get free shipping so another £12.50 off so it comes to £423.42

before we get the 'but the cpu is oem, you get 3yrs warranty with retail' brigade in here the difference is ~£20 which you can use on a better cooler than the intel stock cooler, plus I'm currently using a 4yr+ old q6600 which was oem and no issues.

if you want sli then

Yeah I want to leave the door open for SLI and that's why I picked the XFX 850w. Is the Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard Gen3? I may sell the gtx 580 and upgrade to midrange keplers in SLI or get a second gtx 580 sometime later next year. Also want the option open to get an Ivybridge as they look like they'll be great overclockers.

Didn't know about coolermaster deal. Silent Pro Gold 800w starting to a look bit more attractive but think the XFX may still be better.

Also as for the i5 2500k i can get the retail one from this other place for the price of the OEM one here. So planning to do that unless OCUK has some hand picked OC capable chips (?) or something.

cooler, i use the Titan Fenrir Xtreme CPU cooler, its very good, my rig is i52500k overclocked to 4.6ghz , i have a GTX560ti also overclocked and 8gig og fast ram its a beast i wont say where i got it from or il be banned again, charming, but its the best place to by a pc in the uk

I like how the Gelid and Evo are cheap. But I'm leaning towards the Thermalright Silver Arrow. SEems the best in class at the moment. Any thoughts?
