Hi guys,

So been wanting to upgrade my cooler and as my motherboard is RMA and probably broken it seems as good a time as any to look for a new cooler for my chip as it was getting rather hot! running at around 60-70 degrees!

I originally had on it a Scthye shuriken low profile cooler but have decided I want the chip much cooler,

Dont have hundreds of pounds to pour on watercooling unfortunately so thats out of the question, however the Corsair H100 does look nice but just wondering if its possibly Overkill for my CPU,

Or any other suggestions on what to get would be much appreciated!!

Thanks =)

hi there, i was going to go for h100, coolermaster is releasing a new water cooler in may EISBURG looks promising for my new z77 and ivybridge.

The H100 would, I think, be a bit overkill running 4.2.

I believe (from the reviews I've read)that the Antec kuhler H20 620 would be enough - especially if you add a second fan and go push / pull.:)

About a year ago I moved from air cooling to water cooling with the CoolIt ECO ALC sealed unit (very similar to the Antech system) and have no regrets at all. The temps. did not alter that much as I let the motherboard control the cpu fan(s) via PWM. As I type the cpu 's temp is varying between 28/29c and the single (exhausting back of case) fan is running 800 to 900 rpm. I just ran IBT @ standard test/settings and the highest temp recorded was 60c ( fastest fan speed was 1375). My cpu is a i2500k and I've got it clocked to 4.2
I cannot run push/pull with my cooler - it impedes the side fan.
The antec is allegedly the better cooler.
I have no idea how good or bad the Antec fan is - if I were buying then I would probably go for an Apache fan (or 2) - they do run happily with PWM. (the second fan would probably reduce temps by a degree or so). Hope this helps:)

Yeah thats what I thought, Not a big fan of the Antec khuler's,

And the only gripe I have with the linked Akasa beejjacobs is im absolutely sick of noisy fan's which I expect that would be when the i5 is clocked =/

EDIT: I am also considering that in probably a year or two investing in a i7-2600k so may be more beneficial to get the H100 to sort of "future-proof" things =P

If you aren't going to clock over 4.2 then a cheap air cooler would be fine, the Corsair A50 is good for upto 4.6ghz. If you want to go higher then a H100, H80 or a antec kuhler 920 would be good.

Would be looking at around 4.8 or anything in that area stable.

The alpenfohn is nice but looks to be too big as I have the Corsair vengance ram with the tall heatsink which could be an issue.

How good are noctua fans? I'm really against anything ruining the White/Blue colour scheme going on in my case and just looking at the noctua's put's me off =/

Hmm they look nice too! shame the smaller blue is out of stock =/

Is it possible to dismantle noctua fans and spray them without damaging the fans or the bearings?
