I'd be very surprised if your I5-2500k wont do at least 4.2 on auto.
In my opinion... with these CPU's, it's only if you want to go above this level, that you need to start setting voltages manually and disabling EIST, C-state etc.
Also... doing it this way and also leaving on all the "green features", means your CPU only spins up when you need it to.

Looks like my board doesn't have options for overspeed protection or long/short duration power limits.
Would just changing turbo values be enough? or would other settings need to be changed?
Right, changing turbo values wasn't adjusting speeds for some reason, still showing 3.3Ghz in CPU-Z.
So all i've adjusted in BIOS is the multiplier to 42, vcore to 1.235v and LLC set to high. This changed the speed and all seems stable, although for some reason when running IBT or Prime95 the vcore fluctuates from 1.236v and 1.248v in CPU-Z
