I currently have a i5 2500k and a GTX580. All i need to do is play video files with high bitrate, like a Blu-ray Rip onto my 1080p projector via HDMI.

Easy i thought.... Issue i'm having is complete smooth playback. I have tried a number of players (VLC, MPC HC, GOG) and combo of codec packs.

It feels i'm 90% of the way there. I'm still getting the odd micro jitter, especially on panning shots.

Question is trying to narrow it down to just software or is my PC just not powerful enough.

Playing around with different media players and settings gets me 90% there i feel.

So is my PC/GPU not good enough or should i not expect 1 to 1 quality match from a Blu-ray ISO.

i5 with on board graphics should be absolutely fine, let alone with a 580.

I built my HTPC in 2011 using an i3 2100t (low power version) and using onboard graphics.

It is still going strong to this day on the TV.

I have an intel computestick with an M3 plugged directly into my projector, again no issues.

given your cpu and gpu are more than capable of what you want, you say its a blu-ray rip, maybe an issue with your storage device itself or bandwidth/resource hogging from another program?

I'm running a 2600k here and i was also using a Gainward GeForce GTX 570 and the video play back was spot on, no issues at all, i've upgraded the video card now to a 1060 some time back a lot cooler card to run and very much less power hungry, thank god i did because of this summer we have had, so your 2500k and the 570 should run video play back fine, could be a motherboard issue may be ?

in my experience with playback, i5 with a 580 is over kill for 1080. I have a Cheap i3 with no GPU and that plays blueray rips with no issues (through Plex). Mind there is no way my i3 can handle K4 HDR.

have you considered your network hardware. are you using Wi-Fi? what receiver are you using? how long are your cables (if any)?

I have now got everything running smoothly. Seems KODI does best job for me when linked up to my projector.

One or two files i had was HEVC which from what i read my gtx580 cant deal with as now i understand. I will be doing a full upgrade soon anyway to the new RTX series with 8700k so all should be good then, no matter the file type.

With an HTPC you really want to focus on getting it as quiet as possible. You can get a passively cooled 1030 that will meet your requirements and not generate any noise.
