Im going to be making a pc soon, and was wondering if this processors onboard graphics is disabled by the motherboard, as I cant afford a dedicated graphics card off the bat, so I was planning on using integrated graphics until I can save up for a graphics card.

-Intel i5 2500k
-Gigabyte Z68AP-D3

I don't thinkso, you can buy hdmi to dvi converter cable but no sound will come through but you have pc speakers for sound

So if your tv has hdmi then your ok,if you monitor has hdmi or dvi ports then again your fine

you can buy various adaptors hdmi to dvi ect aslong as you have external speakers, but hdmi port is fine if your monitor or tv has built in speakers, plus you use a lot less power using built in graphics

What would be the benefit of that over using the onboard graphics from the 2500K?

Looks like nothing:

Our performance tests with the high clocked mainstream version of the HD Graphics 3000 in quad-core processors showed a performance level on par with the current entry level generations from NVIDIA (e.g. GeForce 310M) and AMD (HD 5450). Some games even ran faster but still there are some driver glitches (like too dark scenes in Left 4 Dead 1&2 and Supreme Commander or not starting games like Mafia 2). See our extensive gaming review of the Intel HD Graphics 3000 for more details or at the end of this page for gaming benchmark scores.

You're better off putting the 20 towards a better motherboard

I have the 2700k, but it has the same HD3000 in it. I am quite impressed with it. Its no where near as good as a dedicated graphics card, obviously, but it is a lot better than I expected.

I can run Eve-Online at 1280x720 with everything on high and still get around 30fps while traveling/mining. If I set everything to low I get 60 so I assume v-sync is limiting this.
The one thing it doesn't like me doing is running eve full-screen then alt-tabbing to something else, everything goes pink. But if I need to do that, running eve windowed works just fine.

Would you be able to play a game like bastion on intergrated graphics?
Only adking as ive rma'd my gpu so waiting for deals on the new 7950 or 7970.

Bastion doesn't have any particularly heavy requirements.

I play it on this desktop using a 5450, and if they're comparatively the same (as was suggested earlier in this thread) then it'll be fine.
