I'm having a similar problem with my Stock cooler at the moment, reseated it 3 times dosn't seem to help.
If you're concerned that there is a 10 degree difference across your cores - don't be.
This is a familiar problem/sight with a lot of SB, mine included, and mine is sat under a Silver Arrow - i have a 7 degree difference between core 0 and the rest of my cores (which too are all 3 to 4 degress out.). I too reseated my cooler 3 times (a PITA with the SA) and the results were the same - and after reading similar threads i came to the conclusion that the it's just a sensor anomoly across the cores (just like other incarnations of quad cores).
I am aware of the Temp difference issue, but its more towards that it's more so that I'm hitting 70c peaked at 77c after a few more runs on Stock Cooling on Stock Clocks and Volts. Way too hot for my liking especially at Stock Clocks.
If you're not happy with the temps the only solution you really have is to buy a third party cooler.
Out of interest what are your temps like when gaming as that is more representative of your real temps than IBT which is brutal?
If you're looking in the region of ~£25 i recommend the Gelid as it's a great peformer for the money or the Corsair A50.
If you want more bang for your buck then i woukd have recommended the THermalright Hyper @ ~£18 but OcUK don't stock it and after a brief search i it looks as though it may have been discontinued.
The Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 would be a solid budget choice.
You should see a dramatic drop in temps with an A70 strapped onto it - plus you will be able to get a respectable clock and still be relatively frosty.
Basically they've offered me a free upgrade to a GX-7
I have, just gotta wait for them to ship it to me from wherever in the world they're based
Swiss management based in Hong Kong (google) - but they may be able to ship from suppliers in Europe/UK. If not it should only take a week to 10 days even if they ship from Hong Kong.
No problem - post back when you've got it strapped on it would be interesting to know your temps.
Will do
Well kinda
I’ve got my GX-7 installed but I haven't really had chance to test it yet. Gelid customer service is second to noneAlso included a tube of GC extreme
A quick 5 runs of IBT 1 core peaked at 71°C and was 70°C most of the time so it looks about 10-12ºC cooler. Still warmer than I thought I would be getting at 4.5 GHz but acceptable I guess.
Unfortunately I am away with work all week so can't test it properly until next weekend.
I've also got the brackets through from Noctua for my old NH-U12P which I think I'll give ago. Good customer service as well.
I'm starting to think I might not be a cooler issue though. Think I'll take a closer look at the surface of my chip next time I have the cooler off.
Still seems fairly high.. I'm at 4.6ghz atm, and my cpu fan is turned the wrong way and sucking hot air from a soundcard.. Prime seems to only hit my temps around 62c... All sounds fairly peculiar. Only other thing to do is to try and rma the chip, or sell it on ebay and buy another one?
at 4GHz I was getting 73°C with the Gelid 83°C with the stock cooler. That seems hot even for the stock cooler
