i5 2500k OC high temps

Could do, ~70°C doesnt really bother me unlike 83°C. Would have been nice to see what the chip would do.

What cooler are you using again?

I am using this atm:

Still seems fairly high.. I'm at 4.6ghz atm, and my cpu fan is turned the wrong way and sucking hot air from a soundcard.. Prime seems to only hit my temps around 62c... All sounds fairly peculiar. Only other thing to do is to try and rma the chip, or sell it on ebay and buy another one?

Don't compare Prime temps to IBT temps. Prime gets me temps of around 55c, IBT will give me temps of around 66c.

Temps of ~70c from an IBT run sound about right and certainly nothing to be overly worried about imho.

Well I don't think I have a problem with my temps any more.....

Since I got the kit to fit my Noctua U12F, I was going to do my own little comparison.

However the back bracket wouldn't fit and I couldn't be bothered to take a angle grinder to my case. :(

Therefore it was just down to the GX-7. Hopefully I've put the right amount of paste on this time...

Results with 1 fan and before I got some proper TIM cleaner.

Results with 2 fans and the cpu and cooler meticulously cleaned. Getting better :)

Final temps, acheived by changing the voltage from 1.325 fixed to +0.45 offset and dropping the load line calibration from 1 to 5. With these settings I never saw the vcore go above 1.320 and most the time it was between 1.296 and 1.304.

I have to say I am more than happy with these results and I don't think the bigger and more expensive Silver Arrow and Noctua NH-D14 would perform much better.

So the GX-7, with one fan and same bios settings dropped the temp from 86°C to 73°C, a bit of cleaning and an extra fan dropped another 6°C and improving my bios settings another 4°C. Altogether a whopping 23°C improvement

Thanks for your help and suggestions all :D
