Hi guys,

Building a mITX gaming rig in a Silverstone SG05 case.

Not built a rig in several years so testing all hardware before the final fit.

I wanted to test whether i fitted my heatsink correctly.

i5 2500k stock settings
Shuriken Scythe Rev. B
Zotac z68 Wifi

Downloaded and currently running Prime95

Its still running but temps seem to have topped out and stabilised at 74'c

Been going nearly an hour.
According to Prime95-
'Self Test 640K Passed'
'Self Test 8k Passed'
'Self Test 720k Passed'

Idle is usualy 25-26'c

Is 74'c OK? Its stopped getting any hotter and the recommended max is 98'c right?

Thanks!

Stock speeds.

What should it be, 50-60'c?

Looks like i'll be refitting the heatsink. D'oh

Rice grain sized blob of thermal paste in middle of CPU right?

Looking at the cooler I wouldn't expect it to be that much better than the stock cooler, it is low profile and thats the price you pay.

OK. Thanks guys.

Refitted the heatsink.

Checked and triple checked all four corners are attached fully.

Temps are much the same.

The only thing I can think of is the fact that I fitted the heatsink horizontaly across the CPU, the base of the heatsink being rectangular.
