Hi all, not sure its a problem as such i wonder if you could clear it up.

When my pc is idle according to cpuz my clock speed is jumping between 1600 mhz and my overclock of 4500mhz. What is the reason for this i can understand it downclocking it self when idle but why does it keep jump between my overclock and underclocking every 2 seconds.

The other issue when using prime its downclocking it self again to under the stock speed seems to hover around 3000mhz to 3200mhz. Surely it should be using the overclock of 4500mhz?

Another thing i dont know if its related or not since doing windows update it seems really slugish loading up my start up programs like steam and msi afterburner takes a good few minutes to get everything loaded up

So can anyone clear this up have i got something set up wrong some where.

Myboard is a asus p8p6 pro

just tried a game bench mark and it was using the overclock more but a few times to droped to 1600mhz

Thats what i figured but it still doesnt explain why its jumping between 1600 and 4500mhz every 2 seconds when pc is idle or is this the same on other peoples cpus?

It's probably related to one of the internet browsing programs you use that uses gpu acceleration. I noticed the same thing on my new build earlier with the same chip as you but I'm not concerned at the moment.

Yeah at first i thought it was a bad thing but its keeping my temps down which i am greatful for on a stock cooler and its not jumping up and down as much now its generally keeps my underclcoked speed of 1600mhz and uses the trubo when needed . So its all good :)

hello
I am also getting the SLUGGISHNESS when installing/updating or performing other tasks that seem to be using the HDD (although not really taxing the CPU).
I have tried almost everything to fix this, but unfortunately to no avail.....
Do people think this is an i5 issue (not a fault), are many others noticing this sluggishness? I am also using an Asus MB too

Jon

Yeah i know what u mean getting exactly the same thing on mine. Anything to do with the hard drive being used loading games, coping files extracing files my pc becomes slow and unresponsive i am putting it down to my hard drive going to upgrade to a faster drive next week hopefuly that will cure it :)

Might try usiing a diffrent sata port in the mean time.
