I have the chance to purchase a 2nd hand i5 2500k for a good price. The discription of the cpu is that it had been running on a 65 TDP rated motherboard with no apparant problems.

My question is, could there be possible cpu damage running on a lower rated board

I've not heard of a TDP rating on a motherboard before?

If it was run in a 1155socket motherboard [the only one it would work in] then it'll be fine yes

It was on a 1155 motherboard in a Shuttle XH61, I should have said it supports a max 65tdp cpu and again I am not sure why it would only support the 65, maybe something to do with the way it is powered

The TDP is meant to be a guideline for the cooling solution used, not the power consumption of a cpu though it is closely related. i.e a cpu with higher TDP will use more power than a cpu with lower TDP but the 95W figure is not necessarily that cpus consumption, only what the cooling system designed for it should be designed to dissipate. Hardly likely the cpu would suffer damage before the board.
