i5 2500k temps

I'd start by re-seating the CPU cooler.

There's a 10 degree temperature difference between the cores which is too much.

There's always a few degrees difference but 10 suggests the cooler isn't fitted correctly or possibly you've used too much thermal paste.

when you re-seat the cooler you will need to replace the TIM, clean both the CPU and cooler and most say put a blob about the size of an uncooked grain of rice on the CPU before putting the cooler back on.

if your worried, test to see how far the TIM has spread, it should not reach the edges of the CPU but the closer the better... don't worry too much about this though.

good luck

what cooler are you using?

have you checked to see if your cpu fan profile isn't on something weird where it only spins up at very high temps?

Any idea how i can lower my temps or is the gelid tranquillo not upto the job?

yep, this still doesn't explain the diff in core temps, but I guess 10 degs isn't THAT bad... he might just have a hot core or 2

and most people are happy under 80 degrees so your not reaching any dangerous temps, I wouldn't worry bout it too much unless you want the headroom for a higher clock

quite common to have these differences in core temps

my core 0 is always 5 -10 degrees cooler than the rest and core 3 is always the hottest

10C difference in core temps seem quite standard on the new chips.

My 2500k always has 8-10C difference as do many others, nothing to worry about like there used to be.

Sorry guys but im new to overclocking and am in the process of overclocking my 2500k. Atm my temps are idle max 30 is this good or bad :S. From the above posts im guessing the fact that all of my cores are within 1C of each other is a good thing. At the moment its at stock speed.

What kind of temperature is a safe temperature idle wise ?

80 is a safe idle temp to be honest, it's load temp that's important. I'm not saying I'd be happy with an idle at 80 before anyone tries to shoot me ;)
30 is fine. 'Normal' idle temps for me are around 10 degrees above room temp.

The chip wont start throttling back until it hit 100deg, anything under 80deg load is acceptable, if you want it colder you will need a better cooler

Here are how the results compare now using ic diamond.

5-6 degree drop. Happy with that.

All i have done for the overclock is used the asrock auto overclock in the bios.
Is there anything i can do better manually?

heh i just auto oc'd my new i5 2500k and gettin sim temps as you C61.

btw donkey whats the best amount to shave off the volts each try?

Kind of depends. You want to go as low as possible, so it's almost better to try a bigger drop to start with, then if that isn't stable go back to half way between and see if it's stable at that. If it is, drop it to half way between your new stable temp and the lower unstable temp and check again. Rinse and repeat.
