I'm looking to get a new pc and wondered if there would be much of a difference going from a i5-2500k processor to one of the i5-4690k ones. I know they both overclock well and I'm at 4.4ghz on my 2500k. But just thought something more modern might be better

Some improvement but very little - while your existing CPU works well I'd stick with it over a 4690k. If you want to improve your system you'd likely be better spending the money elsewhere - though that'd depend on what other components you have. If you really want a CPU upgrade just get a 2600k or 2700k second hand as they'll be like your current i5 but with added hyperthreading. Again, this will probably not help much, but in cases where hyperthreading gives a reasonable boost then you'll gain a decent chunk of performance, a much bigger step than going to a 4690k, and for much less money.

Edit: see this thread where even with the board breaking people are suggesting sticking with a 2500k.
