i5 2500k upgrade

:( Don't waste the 2500k

If necessary, buy a used 2600k or 3770k with a BIOS update, overclock if you have a P/Z board

depends on the rest of your system but to be honest that CPU is fine.

what ress are you playing games at?

I have the i7 950 still and its good for gaming and just the GPU letting it down.

maybe OC the cpu and get a after market cooler

As above, depends on your spec's 2500k is still a good cpu and I'd be surprised if you notice any difference going to a 4690k, especially if it is overclocked, if not then try that. If your still not happy get a 2600k, 2700k or 3770k, to fit in your existing mobo

np.gaming no difference. keep your cpu oc get a decent gpu. you good for few years yet. games wont push too much as consoles govern what is performance.

current system is
i5 2500k
8gb gskill rpjaw
gtx asus 660ti (getting on average 85 fps overclocked in battlefield hardline ultra only 20 fps less than my friends 780 ..in doubt just ask i will video gameplay)
msi gaming 5 motherboard
cpu cooling h80i push pull
800w psu
tbh im not having any major problems with the pc regarding gaming its just that i ahve a very old friend in france, and his pc has blown and is years old and i told him i would send him this pc so he can get back to gaming so my new specs will be (all sourced from overclockers)

2x samsung evo sdd
msi gaming 7 mobo
8gn -16gb ram
gtx 970 msi
h100i cpu cooler

I have a 2500k which will tide me over till a decent skylake upgrade comes around, i dont have a burning need to upgrade but i feel when skylake releases its the best time for my upgrade cycle because of the improvements/new chipset with DDR 4 etc
