Hi everyone,

put my new PC together last night (Thanks for the super quick delivery OCUK :) ) and as I am not planning to overclock it yet decided to use the heatsink and fan included with it. I was a little bit nervous about the fact that I didnt have any CPU compound at home as somebody mentioned to me that it will come included, the heatsink did have some gray compound on it but wasn't sure if it is enough.

The PC is up and running and no issues so far but i am scared of burning it out in the long run. :(

you're going to need a 1kg worth of compund to avoid it burning out ;)

but seriously the amount that comes pre-applied is all you need, will only need more is if you ever taked the cooler off for whatever reason and then want to fit it back on(you could just put it back on but its better to clean off the tim and apply fresh tim in that case).

if you buy a 3rd party cooler in the future it should come with some pre-applied or a tube in the box, even if you're not overclocking a 3rd party cooler will give you better temps/noise(well unless you get a cheap one which is not much better than the stock cooler and may be worse).

:D thanks fowler, i will be getting more little bits for it later on like a better cooler, new GFX card and if i win the lottery definitely some SSDs.

when putting it together i was working with a budget that would make Greece look like a world superpower so had to cut out the really fancy stuff.

Even ended up reusing my old gfx card, maybe somebody will feel generous on christmas and buy one as a present (wishful thinking)

Whats your temps like?
I've just built a system with the 2500k and on the stock fan I think I was idling at around 30 and hitting mid 50's to 60 under prime95 full load.

As long as your temps don't go above 70 you will be absolutely fine.

Can even manage a small overclock on stock heatsink I expect.

I've got a stock cooler on mine until the Silver Arrow backorder is filled... I have mine set up at 4ghz clock and tbh its not gone about 40 degrees... :)

Im now running with a stock cooler as my h60 went POP.

Temps normally between 25-30 at idle and 70ish using prime. For what I need the PC its more than fine. The stock i5 fan is very quiet, my Antec 100 has 5 12CM fans and they are the only things I can hear.

Might upgrade when and if summer comes again.

Unfortunately most CPUs that come with stock fans are so loud.
its been ok actually pretty quiet even with all 4 fans running on the antec 300 case.

i suppose it all depends how much strain you put it under
