Gibbo

I just wondered whether you were planning to stock the i5-2500s and the i7-2600s low power versions and if so when might we expect to see them ?

Many thanks

Well it doesn't look as though Gibbo is around so does anyone else know when and where these might be available ?

I just want to run a silent PC without overclocking.

Thanks in advance

I am also wondering the same question, as I would like a low voltage chip for an HTPC build. If you hear please post back in this thread, many thanks.

Did you get a response?

Looking around on the web I don't see the S or T series chips for sale at all.

Did they get put back or released only to OEMs?

Thanks VoG

That's encouraging.

I've tried the New product suggestions forum but it seems that everyone at OCUK is either asleep or not wanting to answer.

Hopefully someone will start selling them soon.

Any idea on pricing - are we looking at less, roughly the same, or more than their counterparts?

well you can get a 2400 & a 2400s, & the 2400s is slightly more than the vanilla 2400. & thats based on a uk etailer that has stock of both chips, so ide expect the same to be true of the 2500s & 2600s.

The 65W "S" chips have been surprising retailers buy consistently selling out everywhere.

It seems that these days people are more concerned about temperature / noise and their electricity bill than having the absolute fastest CPU / Overclocking.

It makes sense really, since games don't really make full use of a very fast CPU, and the extra heat produced by a 95W CPU just makes it harder to cool your GPU...

I'm waiting for the 2600S before upgrading to Sandy Bridge, 4 hyper-threaded cores in a 65W package is just too damn tempting.

If I were Overclockers, I'd be sure to buy twice as many "S" as the normal versions!

Well think about it, unless you buy the K series I doubt you'd really notice the difference. After all, IIRC the S version turbos up to the same speed as the non-S version, so when gaming there's going to be little to no difference.

Intel should have just put the S out as the standard CPU and not bothered with the standard 2600.

Intel have found a flaw in the Sandy Bridge chips you can read more here (not sure how out of date this might be but at least you can all have a read through it);

Stoner.

It's already been mentioned here

Has anyone heard when the i5-2500S or i7-2600S are scheduled to be released. Intel website suggests they should be out there.....

Curious to know if this is a supply/demand issue, or if they are being witheld for some other reason, strategic or otherwise...
