I5 3550 Upgrade recommendations

My CPU cannot keep up with my 7990 in a few CPU intensive games, so I am looking for advice, either intel / AMD are ok to me.
If it is AMD will it be benefited from Mantle?

CPU: I5 3550 (non K)
MB: MSI Z77A-G43 Z77 Ivy Bridge

I was waiting for Boardwell however it is going to be delayed til Q4 so no chance I am going to wait that long. Some reviews said there is no big difference between 3770 and 4770. If thats the case maybe just sell my 3550 on the bay and buy a 3770 would be the best option?

p.s. I am not a OC guy so please take that into consideration.

BUDGET: £1xx~2xx (CPU only) to 3xx (CPU+MB)

The Xeon 1230 V2, as far as I'm aware that's the 4c 8t ivy.

Mantle benefit is regardless of CPU, so you should see big gains with your i5 3550 with mantle on BF4 as opposed running it on Mantle.
