i5 3570k - safe temps

Hi guys,

just done a new build and have downloaded Core temp and wanted to know what the maximum temps I should be looking at are for gaming 0 SWTOR / WoW and when just browsing the web/installing software.

I've Googled a bit but it always comes up showing me temps for overclocking which I'm not interested in right now.

Gaming.

I don't think I go above 40-45 with my games (BF3, Skyrim, C&C3 etc) - idle is 28-32 degrees.

Yeah 50C is about highest you'd expect to see for light use and no overclocking. Although it'll probably sit quite a bit under that, especially when just surfing the net.

Ok, maybe I should go out and get some thermal paste then. Had to take the heat sink off yesterday and now it's about 40-50 degrees when just browsing the net etc

Any decent paste will do, even the old stuff like Arctic Silver 5 is fine. If you can get some of the IC Diamond 24-Carat all the better.

So as long as you don't use chocolate, everything is good.
Although the smell of hot chocolate around the room may be worth the excess temperature.

Also, is low fat as good as the normal stuff ?

I think it's fair to say that you shouldn't be using foodstuffs as thermal paste. Use something like Arctic Silver, MX-4 or similar.

They run a bit hot anyway so it can only be an improvement if you can eat them afterwards!

It's now idling around 40 degrees and playing SWTOR at 60. Should I still be worried? I've re-applied the paste already.

Ultimately no, if you don't plan to overclock then 60 is nothing to be worried about.
