I have an i5 3570k, overclocked to 4.2ghz. For cooling I'm using a Cooler Master Hyper T4. When doing a stress test in prime95, my cpu averages 81c.

Is that temperature normal? It seems a bit high to me

81 is about as hot as ya want an overclocked CPU getting really, but thats in prime 95, what temp does it get when your using it normally?

You could check your cooler isnt full of dust, replace your TIM on your CPU but first i would check your core voltage, if you didnt turn it to manual before you started overclocking it could be ramping up too high. I've seen people using automatic overclocking programs getting silly volts going through their CPU.

I'm using a Cooler Master Silencio 452. For the CPU cooler itself, I recently blew all the dust out of it, and re-seated it with new thermal compound (as I thought that was the issue). But it hasn't been fixed. CPU is at 1.3v. The fan on the CPU is blowing through the heat sink, and there is a case fan right next to it exhausting air out of the case. I'm using an msi Z77A-G43 motherboard, but I see no option of lowering the core voltage unfortunately.

Just did a test at lower settings, 3.4ghz @ 1.12v. Under load in prime95 still gets to around 70c. I guess it's either a really hot chip or the cooling fan is terrible, knew I should have gotten the 212 evo.
