I have 2 machines but am trying to overclock my sons i5 but I cant adjust the offset voltage when I set offset to say +0.005 and save system reboots but it has not changed ?

also just flashed bios as well but the voltage is just 1.24 on 3.6 for some reason and I want to clock it to 4.2 any advice please ?

should I just use a fixed voltage if so what else do I need to change in bios ?

his motherboard is asus p8Z77-v lx

also what voltage is best for 4.2 ?

thanks

4.2 1.225v or there abouts. i would change from offset yes. To do so under Vcore change the selection to manual and then input the value you want.

Set the multiplier to 42 for 4.2.

Now test

ok speed step is now on and I have disabled c state in bios .

I have a fixed voltage

is that ok as core speed changes ?

thanks for your help.

Yeah it is fine. If you want stable core speed enable high performance power plan in Windows power settings.
