Don't worry about the volts so much as the temps. At 1.4v on anything less than chilled water you'll be well over safe temperatures approaching if not hitting the Tjmax at full load.

Go down to 1.2v or go into a negative offset if you're using offset mode so you get around 1.2v at full load. Then download prime95 and core temp, run them both for 10 minutes and see what temperatures you get. Anything under 80c is ok, over 80c is when you need to be concerned and it can damage your cpu.

P95 will also test the stability so keep upping the frequency to 4.5 4.6 etc at 1.2v until it becomes unstable then increase the voltage one or two ticks at a time. Do this until you reach around 80c after 10-15 minutes in prime95 and that will be the maximum volts you should be using. Once this is done to get greater gains you'll need to adjust other settings.

1.2v is a bit optimistic, I need 1.29v for 4.5GHz on a good motherboard. It all depends on the CPU. You may need anything from 1.18v to 1.3v for 4.4 imo.

You are better off using the stock voltage, and increasing the clock until it fails to remain stable, then adjust voltage a bit and raise clock more until you find your 4.4 voltage.

Is this with the stock heatsink? 4.4 on that thing is likely going to be loud.

Erm, i have a z77 gigabyte board, (the £81 one) 3750k and a freezer 7 (£15 one) just put it to 4.2 but didnt do anything to the voltage, will my system kaboom?
