Its been a long time since I have overclocked anything guys but my sons rig is showing 100% CPU usage when he is playing fortnite and I just wondered how easy it is to squeeze a little more out of this chip - 4.4GHz should be easy , yes?

I don't really want to have to upgrade the cooling or anything like that - does it stay cool usually or do I need to think along other lines?

The motherboard is the MSI H97M-E35 by the way

You should be able to easily get 4-4.2ghz just by increasing the core multiplier to 40 ish, but I wouldn't want to do that on a stock cooler. The performance might actually end up being worse if it keeps having to throttle itself. Should be fine if you already have aftermarket cooling though, even something like a £15-20 120mm one could handle it no problem.

I don't think the H series motherboards have the option to change the multiplier and have limited core voltage adjustment, unfortunately you may just be limited to upping the BCLK.

Just opened up the rig to see the cooler and its a Tranquillo V2 - is that good enough?

Yeah, should be fine.

Ah, didn't think of that. Weirdly the manual for that board still has a section for core ratio adjustment, so it might be worth a look anyway. It seems to have an auto overclocking thing as well. I wouldn't normally use it, but if it's just a small overclock it might be worth a go.
