Hey guys,

thinking of changing CPU's to a 6400 or a 6500, with 16gb DDR4 ram and a 1151 mobo (obviously).

is the upgrade worth it for a more "up to date" setup? it will be mobo, cpu and ram im changing, keeping everything else the same!

thanks guys, RTJ

If you want an up to date rig wait for kabylake in January as the mobos will have an upgrade path to new CPU architectures.

You want to go from an unlocked i5 to a locked i5 and have to buy a new mobo and RAM to end up with a SLOWER CPU? :P

No. Don't do it. The only upgrade for you would be skylake 6700K or kaby lake 7700K. Even still, what for?

Do you game? Just OC your CPU. You will be fine for another couple of years without missing out on anything.

Earliest you should upgrade is Coffee Lake in late 2017-early 2018.

And that's only if Coffee Lake is 6-core as rumoured.

Only other options are AMDs Zen in ~4-5 months if it turns out to be Broadwell IPC. Or Skylake-X on X299 platform in ~9 months, but that'll be very expensive.

hey guys,

thanks for the input. i am stripping my pc down tomorrow for a MOT and a few tweaks, so will considering OCing once its build back up.
