It looks like I could do this for basically no cost - would it be worthwhile to get Hyperthreading (and a slightly higher stock boost)?

Currently have it with a Vega 56 on a B85 motherboard with the Non-Z OC at 4.2GHz (so basically is HT better than 300MHz overclock - 3.9GHz Turbo on the Xeon) - never been able to get much more out of it even manually, with 8GB of DDR3 1600 so I may add another 8GB too.

Just trying to get the most out of the system before doing a full upgrade, hoping the new Flight Simulator will still run on it. Otherwise I'm looking at £300 minimum for a Ryzen upgrade.

Yes it should help. The extra threads are always a bonus, but they don't always scale particularly well in all games. You'll certainly not lose performance though.

Thanks - I've ordered the CPU and ram. Pretty sure I still have the box and unused stock cooler for the 4670K so will get that sold easily I think.

I've signed up to get the alpha of Flight Simulator so hopefully I'll be invited - seems likely it does take advantage of more threads unlike FSX.

For anyone interested, it seems this was worthwhile (in 3DMark at least, haven't tested any games yet):

CPU 4670K 4.2GHz OC vs E3-1241 v3 Stock
GPU Manual vs Manual
RAM 8GB vs 16GB

Graphics 7231 7329
CPU 3575 4120
Total 6269 6562

That's with an undervolt overclock on the Vega 56. 15% increase in the CPU score, and 5% increase in overall score.

In CPU-Z Bench multicore has gone from 1800 to 2000, single core 50 points less as expected.

Now to sell the 4670K - hopefully it only costs me postage overall (less the 8GB upgrade).
