So, the PC I am currently running has been pretty much untouched since build in around late 2006! Aside from a motherboard and RAM replacement and new GPU, it is still running a stock Core 2 Duo E6700. The GPU is a Radeon HD 6870 (edit: found the model number). I plan on replacing it with the following and would like to hear what people think as I have been out of the game for too long:

Intel Core i5-4690K
Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK
EVGA Supernova GS 650W
Kingston HyperX Savage Red 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11
Samsung 256GB SSD 850 PRO
Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 Midi Tower

This comes in at just under £600; the GPU will be replaced at a later date. I have had my eye on the tower for about a year now, which is the only thing that I don't want to change my mind on - but I'm open to suggestions on anything.

Since typing most of this out, I have read on the forum that going for a Skylake setup will not cost much more than the above, so I will even consider that. Money isn't really too much of an issue, but initially it will only be used for a small amount of gaming (namely Guild Wars 2, which is restricted massively by the E6700 - 14 FPS anyone?).

Thanks guys :D

I would personally get 2x8gb of RAM considering how cheap DDR3 is nowadays, but aside from the SSD, as Watling has said, nothing's wrong with that at all.

If you planned to get a 980Ti, I'd get a 750W PSU.

Would definitely recommend skylake, the i5 6600k as it is has 4 faster cores than the 4690k. Also a lot of people are saying that they are good overclockers and don't draw as much power.

My say would be go for the new chip. Some new skylake chips will follow slightly so well know which ones the better of them soon enough.

Thanks for the help guys. I have decided to go for the Skylake setup, so just need to fork out the cash for it now :)
I will go for the bundle with the Z170XP-SLI motherboard, as that will more than meet my requirements. I don't need the SLI capability, but it is always there if i need it and there is also a £20 saving there as well. I'm not too sure on RAM and a cooler (I am lead to believe that the processor does not even ship with a bog-standard Intel one), but I will do some research and should be able to find some quality bits at good prices.

Thanks again.

Hold off getting a new GPU, since you were going to anyway. Its a good idea to wait for the next round of GPUs which will have a die shrink.
