i5-4690k vs i7-4790k for music production

I know that CPU clock speeds and cores are important for music production. I was wondering how noticeable the difference would be by spending an extra £100 or so on an i7. How much would the hyperthreading technology actually affect music production performance? And how noticeable would the 500MHz difference be (4GHz on the i7 vs 3.5GHz on the i5)? I'll be using Pro Tools most of the time, sometimes alongside Ableton and Reaper.

Follow-up question: would I receive more performance out of an overclocked i5-4690K or a locked i7-4790? In other words: are the higher clock speeds of an overclocked i5 more important than the 8 virtual threads of the i7 (for music production)? (The cost of a good aftermarket cooler, Z97 motherboard etc to allow for overclocking comes to about the same as an i7-4790 with no overclocking)

Thanks for the reply. So the HT makes for a significant improvement in music production performance?

Pro Tools is able to access double the amount of cores and distributing the work load on more cores so having HT you will see the benefit. The extra cache on the i7 will help too.
