When I am playing a game that stresses my system such as GTA IV, it freezes for a few seconds and then both of my screens (I have dual monitor) fill up with a solid colour. Monitor 1 and 2 usually have different colours for some reason when crashing.

I have tried intel cpu stress test and "FurMark" to stress the gpu - http://www.ozone3d.net/benchmarks/fur/

Both tests have no problems after running for an hour or so.

CPU/GPU temps in the 50-60C range.

Not running overclocked. BIOS factory settings. BIOS upgraded to latest version.

Running Windows 7 x64. Latest drivers all round.

Heres my PC specs: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=809168

Spent £500 on upgrading month or two ago and it is very frustrating, I have been trying to fix it for ages. I have suspected the Raptor hard drive could cause problems as a similar drive did on my dads (he has a old 775 mobo though), but can that really cause such a odd crash? Is it really likly to be my hard drive? It came new out box when I put it in.

Try relaxing those memory timings, try 2t-8-8-8-24-trfc88 set the voltage at 1.65v for the memory
(rest of settings leave as auto, make sure to adjust both sticks), see if that helps, i have ocz memory and have had trouble getting them stable, cant get them to run at 7-7-7-20, worth going over to ocz and report it there as theres quite a few people with memory probs on the ocz site

Also what power supply do you have?

my cpuz

What the heck...

I just had a go at getting a CPU-Z validation thingy after looking at yours and this is what it printed out: Clicky

What the devil happened to my memory timings... the XMP profile set it to 7-7-7-24 and I didn't touch it after that o.0

Ok, I will try that when I get home from uni.

I have a corsair tx 650w.. I decided not to skimp on the power supply in hopes of better stability.

hyperst's pc is almost a spitting image of mine! So this looks promising advice.

memtest actually didnt report any faults last time i checked. I have been building pcs for years so I thought of that. Memory modules would frequently go bad with my old c2d ddr2 rig (though thats probs due to me overclocking). I will relax the timings when I get home and report back though.

Edit: Also tempted to somehow swap them for another brand now ive read above posts :P

Ok guys, Im still having problems even after upping memory voltage, cas latencys etc. If it is my memory, what part should I replace it with? It is still memtesting with no problems. Sometimes crashes in windows gui and sometimes while gaming.

I just want to get any bad parts out my system now as I am fed up with it.

Is the 4850 clocked?

The 4850 tends to have problems running games with a dual monitor setup when the card is clocked.

I have both and have experienced similar problems with games running a clocked 4850 with a dual monitor setup. (i now either disable the monitor if i want to run a clocked card profile or disable a monitor via the desktop - if i want to game.)

If you are/have - either de-clock the card and test or try disabling one of the monitors in the destop settings and see if you have any success.

Edit: Even if the card isn't clocked i would still consider disabling one of the monitors and testing...

Good luck.
