Hi all

just finished installing new skylake system.

it's
i5 6400
asus z170 pro gaming
viper 16gb ddr4 2400mhz

I went with the i5 6400 based on people showing that you can overclock them using the blck.

Unfortunately I have had zero luck overclocking it at all. Not even a mhz.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I enter bios
I set dram speed to 2400
I alter blck to 150 with a multi of 27
I set vcore at 1.35v

I restart pc

the led on the mainboard flash and then stop at dimm slots and then the system hangs.

upon reboot (manual) it reports overclock failed.

Can't understand why :(

Ignore me.

seems these motherboards can't do it out the box and need a special bios.
installed 1301 bios and now running at 4.5ghz :)

Ok... So now its compleatly died on me and wont boot -.-

I think this whole Idea of overclocking with BLCK is flawed. more trouble than its worth.

I think i may return the i5 6400 and spend the extra £40 and get the 6600K and be done with it.

Did you get it to boot in the end? Any ideas what is stopping it from booting?

It's only more trouble because it was never meant to be possible. Intel messed up (supposedly by accident) which allowed us to OC locked chips.

Nope never did, followed all the guides i could see, wouldn't boot.

Ended up buying a 6600k, fitted that and within 10 mins i was stable at 4.8Ghz with 1.32V and i even overclocked my ram from 2400mhz to 2800Mhz!

For the sake of £40... its worth it in the time saved messing about.

Think u will find that even in manual on this board the multi stays at 32 no matter what u set it at so 150 BLCK was never going to work
