UserBenchmarks show 3600 (would be paired with tomahawk max) as a big jump in performance.
Son wants faster PC for his gaming (mostly Fortnite).

Would he notice big boost?

Would use existing crucial vengeance ddr4 2133 16gb for now.
I would also look at a M2 SSD upgrade to go with cpu/mobo

Plays 1080p on a 144 screen with a 1060 6gb card.
He reckons Fortnite drops to 50 fps a lot and choppy.

Really appreciate that feedback, thanks.
I wanted to future proof a little with Ryzen route. He would happily buy more suitable memory although he may be upset with me as I advised him to buy the 16gb 2133 memory 6 months ago to get past the 8gb he had. 2133 was fastest his current mobo would take.
He has a 500 PSU which would not handle the Intel path AFAIK.

Silly question maybe, when you say 1080p is cpu bound, do you mean the 3600 will be limiting factor?
My assumption was a 1060 6gb is fine for 1080p and if he wanted to go 1440 at some point he could get new monitor and gfx card that would happily sit with the 3600?
Again, thanks for info, trying to get best bang for buck as he using his own hard earned cash from part time job :)

He is pretty good at Fortnite, him and his partner recently got to a last 12 from a starting 600 in a competition... he blamed PC for getting him killed lol, more likely the opponents :)
