About a £30 difference, is it justifiable if spending then even more pennies on an appropiate board to get the most out of it.

Does it give "bang for buck"?

Or, is it best to stick with a vanilla 6600?

Thanks.

Not enough information.

For gaming? Depends on the game, screen res, graphical settings, graphics card, monitor...

For CPU intensive tasks? Worth it if the % overclock is more than the % price hike IMO.

But just checked and ocuk have the 6600 (retail) and 6600K (OEM) at the same price atm (£188.99).

I'm stuck on this as well. Was about to hit "order" for a K, but then this whole overclocking thing kicked up. So am now paralysed with doubt :(

I'd let this non 'k' overclocking settle first, Intel may decide to disable it with a simple micro-code update if it gets out of hand and k chip sales suffer.

Because of the the stupid price of the K i7, you can get updates to block clock
you will not get the same super high clocks that we have been seeing but a good 4.2-4.5 should be easy

I think they would have done it by now if they were going to its been a few weeks now.

don't be so sure lol. If Intel notice even a small uplift in sales in non k processors all of a sudden and a slight decline in the overclockable "K" processors they will do something about it. As it's hurting their sales.

Motherboard vendors can just not include the microcode update if they do that, its not like not including it would have much effect.

Looking back a K cpu is always worth it even for the non overclocker. Often after a year or 2 of high end PC use they might get interested in overclocking or failing that K series always sell for a lot more than locked cpus.

This situation with overclockable BLCK might change that though.

For gaming the speed increases provide negligible performance returns (especially considering boost clocks). Going for the "K" is more of a cool thing to do rather than a smart investment.

Microcode updates have come in windows updates in the past to correct problems. Cant see them going that route to block overclocking though.

I have a couple of OC bundles coming out with chosen MB and BLK overclocking instructions for stable clocks to spank 6600K HARD!! at a great price!!! Watch these forums Monday!!!!!

Anything with an i3 for those with smaller budgets but still want a fun overclocking experience?
