What packaging did you receive your CPU in?

I had a tiny unsealed white box with the CPU sandwiched in some foam. It also had some line scratches on the surface where a cooler could go, and a fingerprint on the heatsink surface too. Should I return it

What about yours?

Oem CPUs are supplied to the retailer in trays, so the retailer has to repackage. so you'll never get a sealed unit.

This. Plain box. No cooler. The fingerprint is just from packaging. Scratches will find their way onto the IHS during production and shouldn't be a concern unless they're literally like troughs gouged into the surface. It's a stamped / pressed piece just to cover the actual important bits and spread heat.

Lovely, thanks, I find it interesting they are supplied in trays. The scratches are so light I'm not sure if there is even any depth to them so all good

Its common to see small scratches from the manufacturing process. The thermal paste will fill theese in. Id only be concerned if they were quite deep.

Bit of a bump here, but it's comforting to read.

I just received an oem 6600k and it is in between two pieces of white foam - quite loose so it is bouncing around if you tilt the package - in a small cardboard box.

Won't be able to test until tomorrow but at least it looks ok - no visible defects.

You got foam!?!

Blimey, you're special! :p

I've had them just rattling around in a little box amoungst the rest of my order before, unless they're physically battered and broken when they arrive then it's unlikely a CPU will be damaged in transit.

looking at the 6700K the oems come with 1 year warranty. Is that with OCUK and then if any issues after a year does it go back to intel or is it 1 year only for intel and OCUK?

One year only from intel, every oem chip is like this no matter which retailer you purchase it from.
