Hi

Currently have an i5 6600K overclocked to 4Ghz. 16GB Ram and 1070Ti.

Noticed price of 7700k coming down and wondering if easy/worthwhile upgrade.

Thats as much as my Motherboard supports so wondering to do that or just skip it and build a new MB/CPU combo in the future. Currently don't have resources for this but wondered if the whole CPU only upgrade was worth it.

THanks

It depends what games you playing really. Some big multiplayer games like battlefield will run a lot smoother with the extra threads other games it will make no difference.

Your cpu can overclock a lot higher which would help in games. 4ghz isn't much higher than the default 3.9ghz.

Sorry I've got it up to about 4.4ghz, mistype.

I just wondered if the 7700k would make a huge difference or just leave the build as it until maybe 9th generation or something. I dont have the resources for a new 8th gen mobo and CPU.

A real mix to be honest, its coupled to a 4k monitor with maxed out settings mostly, odd juddering but noting drastic.

I was also wondering about extending the life of the machine if obviously a new chip would mean it would last longer till 10th gen or so 10nm arrives...

If I had to start chucking 3 figures at a machine for a marginal upgrade at best then it’s better off in the bank till I can accumulate the where with all to do it right

At 4k the real difference is going to be from a graphics card upgrade.

Probably best save your cash towards next gen graphics card when they come out.

If you want more out of your cpu I would just clock it higher and buy better cpu cooler if needed.
