Morning y'all,

I've got a 6600k currently which is slacking slightly. Is it possible to upgrade to a newer generation without changing motherboards, or will I need a motherboard and cpu? I'm a second-hand-purchaser, so I'm not looking for top end performance, just wanting to know how far I can go on a budget.

Edit: My motherboard is an Asus Z170 Pro Gaming if that helps!

I'm not really interested in overclocking now a days - the hassle of testing for a stable overclock, then getting 15 minutes in to a Battle Royale game for a crash sounds awful.

The main reason for wanting to upgrade is my 6600k is really struggling with Warzone and running Discord at the same time. The game is being bottlenecked by the CPU, but due to Infinity Ward making the game run at the highest priority within Windows, discord's push to talk function doesn't get a look in. Sounds mental, but look it up - it's real. My main wish is to get up to an i7, as I think the added thread count will help - a faster chip is a bonus.

The 6600k is so easy to overclock Silly not to spend a few mins setting it up and clocking to 4.8 GHz

I had a 6500 non k running 5Ghz all cores just takes a little time.

but if you want to spend money on slightly faster processor be my guest
